The Covid – 19 pandemic has had a devastating effect to most countries. Almost all the sectors of the economy suffered a dent. Well, the extent of the damages varies from one sector to the other but one thing is for sure, there has been a phase of stagnation globally.
Various market experts and economists have analyzed some of the sectors that have suffered the most hit even as normalcy is almost resuming, albeit slowly. Here, we look at some of the sectors that have been affected by the pandemic….Let’s delve in.
-
Education
Education ranks high in the list of the sectors hit hard by the pandemic. As of March 2020, almost all countries across the globe shut down schools from primary to tertiary levels to curb the spread of this contagious virus. You can imagine a whole year without schooling. The learners are mentally affected as most of them are forced to repeat classes. However, some managed to continue with the learning especially the college students and those who enrolled for online learning.
In spite of all these, most countries have managed it and allowed students back to school. Most schools and colleges have incorporated online learning. Through educational tools and software, schools are able to teach online, set and conduct exams online, and analyze cumulative the performance of the students.
-
Health
The health sector has been equally hit by Covid-19. There are major service disruptions in many countries because the few healthcare workers were reassigned on Covid-19 related cases.
People suffering from STDs e.g. HIV/AIDS were hugely affected. They were at great risk of succumbing to Covid-19 because of their compromised immune system. Some were also left unattended because the medics were focusing on the coronavirus.
-
SMEs
The small and medium-sized enterprises were affected being that they have fewer employees, which had to be reduced to meet the WHO guidelines. However, the industries resolved to remote working, which gives the employees a chance to work from the comfort of their living rooms, patio or backyard.
And with remote work came the aspect of conducting all types of businesses online. This include meeting clients virtually, helping clients virtually and even signing documents electronically.
-
Sports
If you’re a lover of sports, be it soccer, marathon, or basketball, you cannot think about the game without Covid-19 flashing in your mind. The virus has hit this industry really hard. Imagine almost a year without going to the stadiums.
I bet even players aren’t enjoying the game because of the lack of fans in the stadium. Some countries are slowly allowing fans back in the stadium but just a number. It has proved to be very difficult to manage the sports industry.

Entertainment and Hospitality
There was and there is still a lockdown in most countries. This has majorly affected the entertainment industry. Clubs and bars are closed and for almost a year now. If there is a group that has been affected most in are the artist and those working in the hospitality industry. Most of them lost their jobs because they could hold shows anymore.
With the hit on the entertainment industry, most people resorted to home parties. Some of these involves barbecues at the backyard involving friends and neighbors as a replacement for nightclubs. However, this has had to be done following the Covid – 19 guidelines.
Conclusion
Covid-19 is here with us now and there is nothing we can do about it. However, because of technology, our hands are not that tied. We can still operate by following the guidelines to curb its spread.
